Owner Goes to the Store Without Dog—Not Prepared for Reaction as She Leaves - Newsweek

Oct 18, 2024

Always wanting to be with their owners, dogs will often give their humans a sad face as they grab their keys and shoes and head out the door. But one canine recently took things an extra step to show how he truly feels about being left behind.

TikTok user @scouseboomie needed to go out for a quick run to the store, but Louie the jackaranian—a Jack Russell terrier and Pomeranian mix—didn't love that idea. It didn't matter if the trip took just five minutes or 50; Louie wanted to come along for the journey. But because some errands are easier to run without your four-legged friend, this owner continued out of the house without Louie. His reaction was priceless.

Hopeful his owner would change her mind, Louie immediately went to the front window. He needed to watch every move. However, he didn't just sit there. He stood up on his hind paws, sprawling across the glass. He didn't budge. Frozen, he couldn't believe his owner was driving away without him.

The October 12 TikTok video caption reads: "Can't go anywhere without him!"

The dog's hilarious reaction quickly went viral on TikTok, bringing in over 926,600 views, 108,300 likes and 1,134 comments as of Thursday.

"So your best friend is letting you know don't do it again," wrote one viewer.

Another asked: "How could you? The betrayal."

Many said they didn't even realize it was a real dog at first. Someone wrote: "When I looked first I thought it was a Halloween decoration."

Inspired by the Halloween comments, the owner dressed Louie in a skeleton costume in a follow-up video. That way, when he props himself against the window after his owners leave, he'll spook the whole neighborhood.

Newsweek reached out to @scouseboomie via TikTok for additional information.

Dogs like Louie want nothing more than to be with their owners 24/7, and when they can't, they beg and plead to come with them. While that is normal, sometimes the separation can become too much for dogs, causing extreme stress from the moment their owner leaves until the return. This is known as separation anxiety, and pets can feel this way even in the comfort of their own home.

Separation anxiety in dogs goes beyond a quick whimper as you leave or a ripped-up pillow. It's not boredom or mischief but legitimate stress, the American Kennel Club says. The following signs from the AKC could indicate that your dog is experiencing separation anxiety:
