Ventura– The featured Cat at Cassie's Cats & Kittens for June is Link, who is almost five and arrived at the Cat Lounge on January 24, which makes him Cassie's Cats and Kittens senior resident.

LINK shared the Lounge with Lucky, another big male Cat who did not interact well with Link. Lucky found his furrever home last week, which helped Link feel more relaxed in the space.

"We’re watching him strut around the Lounge a little bit, play with toys, and generally act like a happy Cat," Cassie's Cats & Kittens Founder Jennifer Thompson said.

Jennifer thinks Link will be an excellent companion to adoptive parents looking for a Cat who is not a crazy little Kitten.

"He has his playful moments, and he also enjoys sleeping in a sunny spot," she said. "I have a feeling that once he's home, he’ll be the type of Cat who will climb up on the sofa with you and jump on your bed with you."

Jennifer thinks Link will be a social Kitty but didn't demonstrate that attribute at the Cat Lounge while Lucky resided in the same space.

"He felt threatened and couldn't let his guard down," she said.

Despite his challenges, Link is very nice to people who visit the Cat Lounge.

"We had a little girl come in the other day, and Link was right there," Jennifer said. "He was a toddler, and he was right there curious about her, and the parents were sweet with him. He likes to be petted."

She said Link lets you know when he is ready for alone time.

Adding Link to a house with another Cat depends on the Cat, she said, and Link tends to do better with female Cats.

"He would probably be fine with a younger male Cat as long as the male Cat was willing to be submissive," she said. "We have a couple of six-month-old Kittens right now, and they are being very submissive to link."

Jenn i fe r said a mellow Dog with good Cat manners that wouldn't chase Link and try to get in his face would do well.

Jennifer loves Link and calls him a "beautiful orange Tabby" that looks like Morris from the 9 Lives Cat Food commercials.

"I feel like he deserves a break because he had to put up with Lucky for four months," Jennifer said. "We knew he was stressed and didn't like Lucky, and we had to watch them. It's his turn."

Link does not require constant companionship, so he’ll do fine by himself while his parent(s) are at work.

"He's not a clingy Cat, and he just finds his spots," Jennifer said. "If you’re sitting on the couch watching tv, he’ll be right there with you."

In the adoption process, she gathers information from the adopter and what the Cat at home is like; if one already resides there, then they’ll talk it through to see if it would be a good match.

"We always advise adopters on introducing Cats properly," she said. "Even the nicest well-adjusted Cat needs a proper introduction."

"Our general advice is you start the Kitties in separate rooms and let them smell each other and realize there is a new Kitty in that room," she continued.

"Maybe you have a blanket that smells like the new Kitty, and you let the old Kitty smell it. You might start feeding the Kitties on the other side of the door so they have a positive experience with the scent of each other."

Jennifer said Link likes predictable children that use an indoor voice, don't run around, and walk up calmly.

Link came from the Apple Valley Shelter and had no medical issues, and is an excellent eater with good litter box habits.

"The Apple Valley Shelter is a good shelter, and we have a great relationship with them," she said. "They send us Cats that will be a good fit."

Jennifer said Link would do well with one person or a family if the Kids were respectful.

"Maybe a couple or a single person, as long as they come home at the end of the day," she said.

Step one in the adoption process is a visit when Jennifer will discuss your home and whether there are other Cats.

"You can meet Link, find out what he is all about, and have a connection with him," she said. "Step two is filling out the application."

Jennifer said more fun activities are coming to the Lounge soon.

"We have another Crafts and Cats event on June 24," she said. "It's a bring-your-own-project event, so you bring whatever you’re working on as long as it's not painting or tiny beads the Cats may eat."
