American Freight closing all stores. See which NY stores will shutter

Nov 09, 2024

All six of New York's American Freight furniture stores will be closing as a result of its parent company's Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings, the company announced earlier this week.

New York isn't the only state affected though as Ohio-based Franchise Group Inc. is shuttering all of its 328 locations across the U.S. due to "sustained inflation and macroeconomic challenges facing the large durable goods sector."

It's other holdings, however, are safe for now, including Pet Supplies Plus, The Vitamin Shoppe and Buddy's Home Furnishings.

"Today's announcement to de-lever our balance sheet is a pivotal step forward in enabling our market-leading businesses Pet Supplies Plus, The Vitamin Shoppe, and Buddy's Home Furnishings to realize their full potential," Franchise Group Inc. president and CEO Andrew Laurence said in a news release on Nov. 3. "Each of these businesses has a demonstrated value proposition and provides great products and services to customers, which they will continue to do seamlessly during this process."

Here's what to know.

Here's where American Freight stores are located in New York, all of which will be closing:

Closing sales started both in store and online on Nov. 5. The going-out-of-business sales are being managed by Hilco Consumer-Retail, which offers liquidation services, and 30% discounts on the lowest ticketed items are currently being offered on items like living room sets, dining tables and refrigerators.

"Our goal is to deliver outstanding value to customers during this full chain closing sale," Hilco Consumer-Retail CEO Ian Fredericks said in a news release Wednesday. "Everything is on sale and must be sold, and we recommend shopping early for the best selection."
